If your speakers are connected directly to your computer, or if you are using a laptop with built in speakers, you can leave the Audio Output set to “Built-in Audio” pertinent.

Any installed MIDI devices will automatically be detected and no additional configuration. If your M-Audio USB MIDI Device is installed and connected, but 0 MIDI inputs are detected, please refer to the troubleshooting guide.)

#5. Close the GarageBand Preferences.

With your M-Audio interface properly selected, you are now ready to record and jam! Just take care to use usual steps for whole of the making music procedure.

However, if you are recording from a mono sound source such as a single microphone or guitar, it is necessary to select the appropriate mono input to record from. On the other hand if you are recording a Real Instrument track, click to select the corresponding mono Input Source from the Track Info section:

#1. When recording an Electric Guitar track, you must double-click on the guitar amp to bring up the Track Info, and then select the corresponding mono input.

#2. If your audio interface does not feature hardware direct monitoring, (Audiophile USB, JamLab, Transit), if you wish to monitor with software effects, or if you left the Audio Output set to ‘Built-in Audio’, you will need to enable input monitoring. In order to achieve this all you are required to do is enable input monitoring. Select the icon Monitor: On. This should do the trick.

If your device features hardware direct monitoring and you wish to enable input monitoring in GarageBand, all you need to do is, disable the hardware direct monitoring of your M-Audio in order for the device to avoid doubling your monitored signal. However, to get in-detail knowledge, please further refer to the user guide for your M-Audio device to know the procedure which will show you how to enable/disable hardware direct monitoring.
